Some insight into why the New York Cosmos has decided to go on hiatus:

1) The club were struggling to find a stadium to play in, with many venue owners (mostly universities) refusing to rent out their facilities and let new groups of people into their campuses amid the pandemic.
2) The costs of playing D3 soccer amid the pandemic. Renting out a venue (if possible) with no fans in attendance, paying the players and staff, paying for weekly Covid testing, paying for travel...plus the health risks of travel.
3) The federal antitrust lawsuit between Rocco Commisso and the federation is believed to have influenced the decision also. It appears something will happen on this front this year. What exactly, it's hard to say.
4) Will the Cosmos come back and in what form? That's up to Rocco...
