When ur preg on PEI u see your doc until 32w and then at 34w you get bumped over to an OB who you see every 2 weeks til birth. Since I found out I was preg I have been very adamant about hoping to have a female OB. I requested it with my doc for my referral over to an OB soon...
And listen, I KNOW anything can happen on the day of the birth. Anyone could be the one to deliver my baby, I get that nothing can be guaranteed and I'm 100% ok with that. But I just had hoped that at LEAST, until then, I could have my appts with a person who was not a cis man.
So today I get a call from the OB clinic to book in my 34w appt. I mentioned to her that I had requested a female OB and was wondering if that was able to happen. The person was just so unfriendly about it. There was 0 sense of "we can try our best to make that happen for you"
Nothing. Just the typical line of saying there is no way to know who I will have so it doesn't matter.

Pregnancy is treated like routine teeth cleaning. Pregnant ppl are given little autonomy. Like..this is the birth of my child! My voice/desires are not even considered!
I'm already mourning not having the option of having a midwife and the 1 small thing I asked to be considered was met with such coldness. The medical system has made this pregnancy for me feel like I'm just another fetus-bearing person on a conveyer belt waiting to push it out.
Anyway. This weekend I am writing my MLA a letter asking where they are at with midwifery being regulated on PEI. We were promised this in 2020 and I understand covid affected things but it NEEDS to be made a priority.

*Deep sigh*
