1/ I feel like I need to apologise for making this thread (it's quite negative, especially for a Friday afternoon) but I have to get something off my chest. As some of you will know, The Miniatures Page has a somewhat controversial history in the wargaming community.
2/ It is a forum that is run in the USA, funded by advertising from a number of wargames companies. I don't visit this forum normally as I find that it is unpleasant and unwelcoming. However, 2 weeks ago a friend of mine point out several current threads on the forum.
3/ These threads included holocaust denial and explicit racism. I would post screenshots, but Twitter would ban me. And frankly I'm not sure I want to share and disseminate such messages. So, I messaged (again) one of the largest wargames companies who still advertise on TMP.
4/ I explained the situation, and send them the screenshots. I asked them what their thoughts were about being associated with such topics (explicitly associated - their logo appears next to the threads). This was nearly 3 weeks ago. No response. I know I am not entitled...
5/... To a response, after all, they're a large company. I get that they have a lot to deal with, especially with Covid. I'm just disappointed that they'd ignore me, even when presented with actual evidence of discrimination on a website they directly fund.
6/ I'm not calling out the company here as I don't think that would help. I'm only posting this to say that while we can just ignore these unpleasant parts of the hobby, but when legit companies are seen to endorse these websites the whole community suffers.
7/ That's all. I'm just feeling a bit down as a result of this, and writing it down here has helped me feel less frustrated. Thank you.
8/ If anyone wants to know the company involved and see the screenshots I Will Dm you as I appreciate some of you may wish to vote with your wallets on this.
Thank you for all the messages about this, a lot of people have dm'd me to discuss this. I am really heartened by what everyone has said to me publicly and in dm - the Twitter hobby community is an amazing place.
I just want to respectfully bring this thread to the attention of @WarlordGames to ensure you are aware of these issues as you are a prominent advertiser on TMP. Of course, many others advertise on the site, but as a major brand I wanted to draw your attention to this.
So, since I posted this I have had nearly 40 separate people contact me via DM about this, with more each day. Every single person has expressed this distaste for this issue, and their shock after seeing these threads in question. #community @WarlordGames
Just to update everyone, a reply has been received to my email and I have sent them links to some of the (many) offensive threads. I'll update you all when I hear back from them.
