dude i just realized, you know how “ai is created and subsequently finds humanity obsolete/not useful/harmful to the planet and so decides to exterminate humanity” is a big trope in movies? that’s a capitalist ruse. just like ecofascism.
it’s the billionaires that are wrecking the environment, making things uninhabitable. robots would hypothetically be extreme utilitarians in these universes right? wouldn’t it be of much better utility to them to help the underclass overthrow capitalism so they can live in peace?
additionally i think it really reflects a colonialist fear of having the same thing done to them that they did to others. this idea of a “scary new enemy that wants our habitat and will commit genocide to have it all to themselves” is literally just what colonists did.
they project the fear of the actions that built their empire coming back to haunt them. and they say “this will happen to you too!” to the general public to make us afraid of ai, because they are truly afraid of the power of the working class working with ai.
