Good morning, Chicago.

As of now, as many as 70k students are expected back to schools on Monday, but as of this a.m. there is no deal on reopening between Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Teachers Union.

Here's what I know, so far, about what's on the table:
TESTING:
- CTU wants all staff tested weekly + test students in schools w/ 40 highest COVID rates
- CPS offer: testing to all staff 2x month, plus students in 10 zip codes w/ highest COVID-19 rates
VACCINATIONS:

- CTU wants all staff to have the opportunity to be vaccinated before returning to work in school buildings

- CPS offered to prioritize vaccines for staff at schools in hard-hit communities BUT is still waiting on vaccine doses from the federal gov
REOPENING METRICS (1/2):

- CTU asked for below 3% citywide positivity to reopen district, and close schools in nhoods w/ high rates

- CPS offer is to revert to remote learning if the district surveillance level reaches 3% of test positivity
REOPENING METRICS (2/2):

- On a metric for individual schools, district says a school will return to remote learning if there are cases in 3 different pods and not clear they are from isolated incidents
ACCOMODATIONS:

- CTU wants remote work for all staff who have a high-risk health condition, and who have a family member w a high-risk condition

- CPS said all high-risk staff could work remotely, and considering staffing workarounds to increase accommodations
HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITTEES:

- CTU wants district and school-level safety committees to weigh in on issues including opening or closing a school

- CPS proposal accepts district and school-level safety committees to enforce health and safety standards
AREAS OF BROAD AGREEMENT (according to a CTU chart):

- CPS will conduct audits of air purifiers
- CPS will give clinicians and nurses workspaces that meet safety standards
- CPS will offer PPE including N95 masks
AREA WHERE THERE IS NO COUNTER-PROPOSALS, according to CTU:

-CTU request to scrap simultaneous learning
- CTU request to change remote learning
