Cantwell has had a bit of a stop start season with injuries & his attitude coming under question by former manager Daniel Farke around training
Aerially Cantwell struggles to win his duels due to his height against predominantly bigger & more physical players. This doesn't deter Cantwell to compete either by challenging directly in the air or tries to use his body to impede the defender from getting clean contact
Cantwell is largely playing on either flank but is given a free role & largely positions himself infield finding spaces between the lines rather than being in an area to cross. Technically Cantwell very good & able to use either foot but his delivery requires to be more precise
Whilst Cantwell can at times beaten too easily due to pressing at pace his defensive work rate is impressive. He's intelligent to spot opportunities to effectively execute the press creating 2v1 situations on the attacker. He is tactically aware in knowing when to tactically foul
Shooting is an area of improvement such as with his placement. Otherwise, Cantwell strikes the ball very cleanly & with his movement able to find spaces between the lines which should his scoring improve will make him a very dangerous player as difficult to mark or track
Cantwell's movements with the ball are reminiscent of Grealish. Whilst he can be guilty of overplaying largely makes the right decision in possession demonstrating great balance, agility, skill & pace which draws opposition players out of position or committing fouls against him
Positionally plays LW but his role is to roam freely & find space between the lines which he does extremely well as has great awareness & positional sense. Cantwell dictates play due using his good vision finding players in space & consistently asking questions in behind or 1v1
Cantwell due to his very good positional sense makes him an outlet in transition to attack where he takes advantage of any spaces between the lines running at pace committing players in 1v1 situations, drawing fouls or making smart choices largely as to when to play in teammates
Cantwell is arguably an EPL standard player showing his quality in the EFL. What is impressive of Cantwell is the ability to find spaces between the lines giving him time to access the areas he can exploit himself or by using the willing runners within the team
