Went to the library for the first time since the pandemic started and borrowed 20 books bc since we booted 45, I have the ability to read books again
.

I started my #decolonizeyourmind2020 project bc I wanted to diminish -- eradicate internalized white gaze. Stop centering white gaze, white characters, white-created art. I have nothing against white-created art, some of it is my favorite (Austen! Carson! Akhmatova!), but
choosing deliberately to seek out creators of color really broke open so many perspectives, nuances, stories that I hadn't read/seen/experienced before. Even though my project is finished since Dec 31st, I'm happy to say the habit is continuing.
I'm not excluding white-created works from my cultural/arts intake, but I continue to feel motivated to actively seek out works of art outside of the white Western world and feeling the richness of my efforts.
Anyway, I couldn't be more delighted than to see a book poetry by Tupac Shakur on the library shelf! Delving into now!
