If we’re all competing, it’s a lost cause. We’re all losing to Stephen King and Nora Roberts, and Agatha Christie retired undefeated.
writing is a competitive field because it's uneven, and quality is no guarantee of success. i set goals for myself, because i'm honest w/myself about where i am in my publishing journey. in the meantime, i'm gonna cheer on people who are doing the work and producing art.
over the past year, i've had what some people consider enormous success. i've published a handful of short stories and signed a book deal. but idk that i could've stuck w/it without the friendship, support, and kindness of my writing peeps.
without more ado, here are some of them: @EmilyGuyBirken, a damn fine writer who will get that novel deal sooner or later; @ItsMarkYall, another Southern BS artist (game recognize game); @IamJBStevens, whose stuff is real & poignant & funny; @PauljGarth, who is absolute gold. #FF
i gotta mention @SteveGone58, who is currently the gold standard as far as grit-lit/noir on the indie scene. he's been a huge supporter of my work, and i wouldn't have my book deal w/o his advocacy. @Curtis9980 is a goddamn workhorse. always writing. i respect him so much. #FF
another guy who's a workhorse: @bjohnsonauthor. he also busts his ass to promote other writers. @GabrielHart77 is committed to his craft, and that's beautiful to see. @beaujohnson44 is funny and talented as hell, and is ALWAYS pumping other writers' work. #FF
let me tell you about @Fijo_Frenchie ... she's a smart, tough writer with heart. so talented. @RebeccaRennerFL is an inspiration. just an absolute badass who has carved her career out of nothing. @amandadashpage writes so well, so deeply, and so lovingly about Appalachia. #FF
