That seems to imply that typical PoC can track the difference between social reality and material reality.

I had assumed that most people can't do that. Is it actually mostly white, American moderns who can't do that for some reason?
If there are large cultural groups where this is common to consciously track that difference, it is model-breaking for me with regard to what humans are like, and have been like throughout history.
(Though now that I think about it, I wouldn't be that surprised if upper class Romans had this property.)
(...hm. Actually, wild speculation: what if the inability to track the difference is pervasive bucket error that came along with Christianity?)
But it is late, and I'm kind of a stunted idiot in general, and I suspect that I am maybe missing the point of this thread entirely?
