Interesting Point of View (bit old but wanted to share it here )
I feel that the Modi phenomena is a reflection of the way Indian parents raise their kids. For clarification, by Indian parents, I mean your regular middle-low class families.

While the connection may not (1/18)
seem as obvious at first, there are stark similarities between the way many Indian parents raise their kids and the way Modi governs this country. The first thing is obviously the “ego factor”. Often, I have seen that parents in this country are never willing to back (2/18)
down, no matter how wrong they are. This “mene bola” mentality is not only toxic but it teaches children to never admit to a wrong, even when they have done something dreadful and completely unacceptable.

I remember a father beating one of my classmates because he did (3/18)
not know how to properly read the report card of his son and thought he had bad grades. The worst part about it was that the psychopath did not even apologize after. Obviously whether or not you should be punishing your kids for bad grades is a completely different (4/18)
subject that I will not dive into.

However, this characteristic is seen clearly in the way Modi governs. He and his motabhai Amit Shah have made a mess of the economy, destroyed any sense of communal harmony left in this country, sold us to their billionaire cronies, and (5/18)
have apologized for absolutely nothing. In fact, they continue to make more blunders and expect us to forget about them like we always do. We as people have failed to hold these authoritarian thugs accountable for their actions and often hold this dumb and pernicious idea (6/18)
that “Modiji ne kiya hein kuch soch ke kiya hoga” (Modiji has done something only after thinking carefully about it).

My other main point is the level of authoritarianism present in many Indian households and schools. I have in my childhood seen kids beaten up for 70/100 (7/18)
and humiliated for just being themselves. One of the proud achievements of many Indian papas and mamas is how fearful their kids are of them. I have seen many aunties bragging about how their kids are even afraid of their eyes. This level of psychological terrorism cannot (8/18)
be good for any child. Quite a few Indian parents not only demand complete subservience from their kids, but also ask to be revered and venerated even when they are being aggressive bullies.

And again, we see this trait very clearly in this administration. The dictator/p- (9/18)
apa (Modji) takes a decision without consulting any experts or digging into the logic and implications of his decisions and we the janta are supposed to just shut the hell up and swallow it. I can never forget the physical abuse and humiliation this man made our migrant (10/18)
laborers suffer when he simply announced the lockdown offhandedly without providing anybody any financial assistance. He demanded utmost compliance and nobody in the godi media said anything when the migrants were beaten like dogs on the street. As a result, many were (11/18)
forced to commit suicide and yet we only hear critters on the side of the godi media.

I can go on and on about similarities between the way Indian parents treat their kids and the way the Modi administration treat its constituents. But the similarities are eye-opening. (12/18)
Indian parenting doesn’t rely on teaching kids about questioning, logic, or critical thinking. It’s mostly about “mene bola na” and outright psychological and physical abuse. No wonder that a large majority of this country has this Stockholm syndrome where they support (13/18)
and vote for an authoritative leader no matter what.

I firmly believe that Modi is a result of hundreds of years of bad parenting. Why else would we support a crazy sociopathic, abusive, power-hungry, ego-tripping, good for nothing, authoritarian illiterate as our (14/18)
leader? I think we have been systematically programmed for ages and perhaps it was already in our destiny that we have a leader and an administration like this. The biggest proof is that despite this man’s incompetence, people still make excuses for him and thug buddies (15/18)
by saying that the opposition is weak. Yes, it is weak! But at the same time, even voting for a brain damaged lab rat makes more sense.

I guess that in a dystopian future where this country is plagued with widespread communal riots, 50% unemployment, economic collapse, (16/18)
and hyperinflation, perhaps it is not Modi or BJP that is to blame, maybe it is the average mama and papa who beat any compassion, logic or critical thinking out of their kids, rendering a large part of the generation into obedient little biological drones.
