Some basic skincare info you probably already know

✔️ DO's ✔️

1. MOISTURIZE

There's a lot of misconception that acne prone skin is oily and hence we do not need extra oil. And thus we don't need to put on moisturizer or skin cream.

It cannot be far from the truth. /cont
Oily skin is intact dehydrated skin. Because skin is dehydrated, it's trying to compensate that by producing excess oil. It ends up clogging ur pores and causing acne.

Wash ur face twice everyday with a cleanser, put on toner ( important to balance skin pH) n moisturizer /cont
If u're oily/acne prone skin avoid the oily stuff. There are many water based moisturizer suitable for oily skin ( known as NON COMODOGENIC )

2. PUT ON SUNSCREEN

No tan won't even out ur acne scars and spots and yes u still need to put on sunscreen if u'r poc. Invest in
a good sunscreen. If ur make up or face powder claims it contains SPF, it's not enough to protect you from the sun. So u definitely need to put sunscreen ( goes over moisturizer) if u're going out in the sun 🌞

3. CHECK INGREDIENT LIST

A of ingredients that are used in /cont
acne care products may not suit some individuals. For example tea tree. It's a highly recommend product for acne prone skin but in reality it's an extremely weird product and many people ( including myself) are allergic to it. So know what doesn't suit u and avoid it /cont
4. If u have dandruff it can cause acne. So pay attention to your hair. Wash your pillow covers often ( weekly) And if possible consider sleeping on your back. That way your face will not come in contact with your pillowcase that contains oil and sweat from your hair. /Cont
❎☠️ DON'T ☠️❎

1. DON'T use physical scrubs. Especially the ones that contain harsh particles. They cause micro tear on ur skin. And in the long run damages ur skin. Those microplastic beads are also bad for our environment and especially the sea creatures. /cont
chemical exfoliation with AHA/BHA is more safer ( yes even tho it contains the word chemical or acid. I linked some videos above. Watch them)

2. DON'T TRY TOO MANY NEW PRODUCTS SUDDENLY

Ur skin will be overwhelmed and if u'r having an allergic reaction u won't be able
to know what's causing the reaction. So introduce one new product at a time. So that if something goes wrong u can stop immediately. It's also so important to use products the correct way. Even a good product will do u damage if u use it wrongly /cont
3. DON'T USE PRODUCTS THAT ARE NOT MEANT TO GO ON YOUR SKIN

This applies for all the hacks like lemon juice, toothpaste, baking soda or whatever hack that's trending on social media. They are too intense and are not suitable to apply to ur skin that is so sensitive. /cont
And often the damage they causes to ur skin, it takes a long time to reverse it so plz treat your skin kindly 🥺

4. DON'T JUMP ONTO TRENDS

Skincare is a very personal thing. It depends on ur skin type and skin problems. Ur skin doesn't need a ten step skincare routine or /cont
some fancy skin oil ( oils are generally bad idea for skin. They clog pores and cause acne. Also fragrance contained in those oil can irritate many skin types. So idk don't put some oil on ur face bc ur favourite celebrity or beauty guruis using it. It might not suit u /cont
Having said that do not put hair oil on your head for more than an hour 💆‍♀️

5. DO NOT USE PRODUCTS PRESCRIBED TO OTHER PEOPLE BY A PROFESSIONAL ESPECIALLY INGESTIBLES

Hopefully I don't have to say why that's a bad idea and outright dangerous
GO SEE A DERMATOLOGIST

Ur body, ur skin it's all part of u. It's more than acne or any other health condition. Treasure urself and feel beautiful. Because u are. If things feel too difficult now and u feel hopeless, remind urself that this shall pass eventually 💜
I have always struggled with acne ( mine are caused by hormonal imbalance. Yes I'm 28) And especially the whole of 2018-mid 2019 was very bad for me (cystic acne). Fortunately found a doctor whose treatment worked for me. It took 6+ months for my skin to finally clear up.
It's always best to go see a good dermatologist if you're also suffering from bumps that's not going away after 3/4 weeks. It might be a cystic acne and u can't get rid of it by washing or exfoliating.
As for the breakout the occasional breakout that's a part of life.
Not just puberty even adults can get them for stress and hormones. I know how difficult it is to not obsess over them. But I have accepted that I will keep getting acne occsionally. All I can do it keep taking care of my skin and go on with my life without letting it define me.
