Alright, now that I've posted my good news I'd like to say sorry to everyone still in the job market. I know how hard it is to want to be happy for someone while sad about yourself and wondering what you're doing wrong.
Just know: you're probably not doing anything wrong.

1. I applied to hundreds of jobs. I lost count. I did not keep a "failure CV", I'm not that strong.
2. I got ONE interview, the one that I'm about to work for.
3. Some of those seemed like I had written the job description myself and nothing.

4. For some I knew people connected to the department or even knew the person hiring.
5. For others, I contacted the person hiring, to make sure I fit the profile, to then be encouraged to apply.
- No interviews, not even feedback usually.

6. Some were clear that they knew who they wanted to hire even before the process began.
7. Some felt like there was some elitism going on, as I'm not European nor did I study in an European uni.
- Can I prove these claims? NOPE. But it happens, we know it does.

8. For others, I barely bothered with the application.
9. I learnt A WHOLE DAMN LOT about applications.
10. The people who hired me had never met me, I have no acquaintances in their department, they just had, as @helgaalmeida puts it, "eyes to see" me.

11. Every single aspect of my application was reviewed by friends who know more about this than I do.
12. I practiced the interview and other aspects of the selection with three different sets of friends.

13. I asked my neighbour, with the construction site across the street to keep it down during the time of the interview. He happily agreed!
14. It sucks to say that sometimes things just fit. That gives hope and takes it away.

15. But, did I mention I learnt a whole lot about applications? I never meant to rub my happiness in the face of anyone who's struggling (no one has said I have, but I know it's possible). So if you wanna talk, brainstorm, get some feedback, I'm here.
