The issue with retail is that you have to have experience in retail to work in retail - and to get that experience in retail, you have to have worked in retail, but to do this, youâll have needed experience in retail.
People seriously think students get it easy, most struggle..

..the average student gets a loan of around ÂŁ2,000 a semester. This barely covers rent, nevermind living expenses - Especially if youâre working class and studying in a high end area.
But then itâs a big struggle for students to find part time jobs for some reason

If students, mostly aged 18/19 go to university without previous work experience in fields like retail/barwork, they often fail to find employment due to lack of experience... yet thatâs the best experience theyâll get whilst at university?
University is all about adaptation to surroundings and new skills at an independent level.
So many places fail to realise that a chance can be vital for a studentâs possibility to carry on with their studies.

You may argue, âwell why didnât they get experience at home?â
Well understand that for some students, moving to a different uni is an incentive driven by getting out of their previous area, also not many people give chances to 16/17 year olds anyway due to again.. *inexperience*

Ask yourself this,
If a student moves away from home, changes their whole surrounding just to further their studies and learning capacity, what makes you think theyâd be hard to train/teach when employing them?
Give people a chance, man.

The best place for students in and around my area *Gloucestershire* for giving chances to students was The Jockey Club (Cheltenham Racecourse).
Allowing a student to pick up a decent wage aswell as some great experience during the festival with a reference too was incredible

My plea to retail/bar managers:
Give students the chance, theyâre young and in the mind frame to learn. The ones who approach you are definitely that type.
University is an experience, enhance that.
Not all will be perfect, but letâs stop normalising that all students are awful
