When Rahul Gandhi was in his 20s, he could have easily contested local Panchayat / Councilor elections and would have worked for betterment of his village / ward while creating a loyal village level cadre while understanding village / urban economics.

When he was in his late 30s, he could have contested as an MP from that same taluka's district. The cadre he would have made in last 10 years would have ensured him a ridiculously easy win.

We are talking about Congress party, the party that had a lot of money and muscle power. It would have been a piece of Cake for RaGa to win local, MLA and MP elections + combine that with a good PR and he would have been at so much better place.
