"Do what makes you happy" is not complete advice.

There are a lot of things that will make you happy now but in the long run, they don't help your life and you may end up unhappy

Rather, do what makes you better as a person. It makes you happy in the long run.

Choose long term
There are two kinds of happiness, there's short term and the long term.

Short term happiness gives you pleasure now. Shopping, sleeping extra, lighting a blunt, etc

The idea is that this kind of happiness doesn't last, Easy come, easy go. Sometimes you feel worse after
Are all the ways we seek short term happiness bad? No. We're creatures of emotion, but you shouldn't spend your entire life chasing the short term happiness.

It's almost never enough, like a sugar high, it brings you down and you're looking for another bottle of sugar again
The long term happiness is the one you should chase, you can't buy it. It comes from building a life, doing what you love, knowing you're making a difference.

This makes your happiness come naturally, but with a lot of work before it did, like a plant that grows naturally
