Ahh I think I've been falling for a key scam, doh
I get emails every 10 days or so from a twitch streamer looking for a Dicey Dungeons code. The emails always look pretty legit. I check the channels, make sure the emails match, and send a code
The channels always look real, but they're not in english - in french and germany usually. They all have around 5k followers, and upload a video or two a day. It all looks legit!
Anyway, it turns out it's pretty easy to fake your viewer/subscriber count on twitch, and if you upload somebody else's video in a language you don't understand it's pretty hard to tell if it's fake or not
kind of impressed by the amount of effort this scam seems to take to pull off tbh - most people just claim to be a big youtuber and send emails from accounts like [email protected]
anyway, Dicey Dungeons has been out for long enough that I'm probably just gonna stop sending out steam keys to anyone who's not using creator connect, oh well ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
I think I've sent out maybe 10-15 keys like this, and I guess the scammer is selling them on G2A for about half price, so they've made somewhere in the region of $100, probably?
Honestly, this all seems like a lot of work - multiple accounts which all have: 5k or so fake subscribers, a month or so of videos of games with bots making fake comments during the videos, fake emails and about pages and.... yeah, somebody's putting a lot of work into this
