Tues was my first ever Clubhouse event, an aftershow for @FundedPod

The show flowed perfectly, peaked at over 1k listeners & ultimately drove >150k impressions to our podcast

all thx to advice from friends + the team @a16z

but it could've been better!

Here's what I learned👇
2/ COMMUNICATIONS

for now, @joinClubhouse doesn't have messaging built in so Twitter DM is your friend. It was helpful to have a group DM setup for the me and my guests for coordination before, during, and after the show
3/ COMMUNICATIONS (cont'd)

Twitter DMs were also good as a way to screen questions from the audience. Although candidly, we didn't promote this option enough.

We tweeted beforehand but we should have told listeners during the show about this option
4/ Speaking of telling listeners, I had great advice from @KatieBaynes @a16z that I should "reset the room" intermittently

Listeners come & go so you can't expect everyone to have all the context

I made a point to as naturally as possible remind what we were there to discuss
5/ When "resetting the room" I should have used that as an opportunity to remind people to DM @FundedPod any questions and promote anything else worth sharing
6/ Other gems from @KatieBaynes @a16z:
- write opening remarks and closing remarks. I wanted to be natural, but it was great to refer to something
- know that audience members invited to speak can ramble. don't be afraid to put them back in the audience after their question
7/ Clubhouse is an ephemeral experience but your connection with the audience doesn't have to be.

I got great advice to encourage people to follow our social accounts and drive towards some CTA
8/ About the CTA - we had the idea to create a free info product about @levels learnings from the podcast and the live aftershow

http://fundedpod.com/levels

It's awesome and I shouldn't have been so shy promoting it.

If you have one, mention it at the beginning, middle, and end!
9/ More on promoting:

Schedule your event in Clubhouse as far in advance as possible. This does a couple things

- Gives you a link that you can post on other platforms
- Shows up in the main feed as upcoming for people randomly in the app who follow the guests
10/ And I can't ignore how much the star quality of our panel helped the show. @andre has millions of followers on Twitter and @ChrisLyons just hit 1MM on Clubhouse.

While not everyone can hope for that you can make the most of the people you do know that have followings
11/ Leveraging Followings

-if you can add highly followed people to your event, it will be more visible to the people who follow them (i think)
-Adding someone as a speaker notifies their followers, so even if they join for a short time, you get distribution lift
12/ Leveraging Followings (cont'd)

Give your popular guests easy ways to promote the event off platform. The simplest would be a punchy tweet that tags your guests and is easy to retweet

For @andre we had a clever tweet that he could respond to https://twitter.com/andre/status/1353499336827662340?s=20
13/ If you thought this was helpful & are curious to see how we do it LIVE...
