It appears that a lot of people I thought were cool and trustworthy, uhhh... aren’t! And I’m feeling spicy tonight.
So I created a handy-dandy list of SOME of the things that have happened to me as a woman in voice over! Buckle up, kids!

- Being used as a wet blanket/arm chair therapist by men when they’re supposed to be my director or peer.
- Being coerced/manipulated into doing sexual acts, INCLUDING “if you want to be paid more for this VO job, do __ for me”.

- Being offered KS funds meant for a game, for me to travel to them so that they could “do whatever they wanted to me”! Wow!
- Being sent dickpics CONSTANTLY by men I’d known for a few days because I was the nicest woman they’d ever talked to so I must want them right?

- Being asked to be “the other woman” so they could cheat on their wives.
- Seeing the ever-deadly “Hey, I’ve been thinking...” messages from guys that I thought were my friends, and never hearing from them again when I turn them down.

- The ENDLESS manipulation and gaslighting.
- Trying to turn me against my female peers, constantly. They want me to hate them so bad for some reason.
- Constantly asking if I trust them, if I love them, if I’ll be their friend no matter what. Yikes.

That’s just a sprinkling of what I’ve been through. That’s just a LITTLE TASTE of what I’ve gone through since joining this community four years ago. For some reason, some people can’t get it through their head that there ARE abusers in this community. They pretend there aren’t.
The situations above are from my past. Things still happen to this day, but I’m stronger and I’m smarter. That is why when I see another woman (or anyone) being abused or made to be uncomfortable, I will lose my SHIT.
I will not be naming any names, so don’t ask. Please respect that. People everywhere go through this every day. People in the VO community have to deal with this EVERY. DAY.
