The Times's Visual Investigations team obtained previously unpublished police bodycam video from an officer beaten by the Capitol mob on Jan. 6. It provides an officer’s perspective on the battle to defend an entryway where a rioter was crushed by the mob. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/28/us/capitol-riot-woman-trampled.html
The footage shows how rioters, in their effort to attack the police with crutches, a hockey stick and pepper spray, trampled on 34-year-old Rosanne Boyland even as her friend, Justin Winchell, shouted that she was dying and needed help.
The footage appears to come from the body camera worn by one of four Metropolitan Police officers dragged out of the west-side inauguration doorway and beaten by rioters during an hourslong battle. It begins at 4:26 p.m., just as officers have pushed the mob out of the doorway.
As the video begins, rioters tumble out of the doorway. A voice, possibly that of Winchell, can be heard shouting, “Save her!” The officer, trying to retrieve his helmet, shouts, "Move out!"
As rioters fall out of the doorway, Winchell begins to scream, “She’s gonna die! She’s dead!” He turns to the crowd for help. “I need somebody!” Winchell shouts. Instead, a rioter behind him sprays a chemical irritant over his head toward the police.
A bearded rioter wearing a hat, brown jacket and University of Michigan sweatshirt begins to move up the stairs toward the police.

“Knock their masks off!” another rioter in a cowboy hat shouts at him.
As Winchell yells "No! No!" the bearded rioter grapples with the officer as another rioter jabs him with a crutch. The officer falls. "I'll kill you! I'll f___kin' kill you!" the rioter with the crutch yells, before grabbing another officer by his helmet and dragging him out.
A man in a hooded winter jacket, who prosecutors say is Michael Joseph Foy of Michigan, is seen on the body camera footage advancing with his hockey stick and repeatedly swinging it down at the officers. Prosecutors allege Foy, a former Marine, struck them at least 10 times.
Michael Joseph Foy faces multiple federal charges, including assaulting a police officer, and has been transferred from Detroit to Washington to face prosecution. The affidavit for his arrest relied in part on the Times's reporting https://twitter.com/evanchill/status/1352686646383308801
