This kind of praise comes as no small nod from me, & I’m just as surprised as you are, but the work that @connorratliff @GriffLightning & @patrickcotnoir are doing every week on @GLucasTalkShow is as close to a spiritual successor to The Muppet Show as we have right now.

The @GLucasTalkShow is entertaining, first and foremost, but that entertainment comes from a bedrock of sincerity, commitment, and positivity that emerges through the work, even when the characters are antagonistic towards each other. You know - just like The Muppet Show.

Seeing that spirit emerge over the course of the lockdown, particularly when @GLucasTalkShow is doing the massive amounts of charity fundraising they’ve accomplished, has been heartening in ways made more resonant by these times we find ourselves mired in.

And just like The Muppet Show, when @GLucasTalkShow invites guests into their absurd world, it’s with a respect and reverence and commitment to having fun that really triggers those comparisons to a show I hold dear, & whose specific spirit is exceedingly difficult to replicate.

The @GLucasTalkShow has gotten comfortable enough w/ itself - due in no small part to the intimacy forced upon it by lockdown - that it can allow itself moments of genuine sincerity amongst the extreme absurdity, without fear of it upsetting the fun. An emotional maturity.
