There's so much protection and obfuscation happening. It's one of the biggest issues when the line between fan and reporter does not really exist.

The purpose of the press as an institution is accountability and that has not been happening here.
To be clear, this is not a league specific problem. One only needs to look at the nonsense in the MLB this week to see it in action.
I personally believe you have to be a fan to be a sportswriter. Double that if you're a woman/non-binary person/LGBTQ+/BIPOC. You have to love it to make all the bullshit worthwhile.
But it's important to know where your blinders are and actively work to counter-balance them.
