The Results of the Don’t Rain On My Parade Poll
Disclaimer: This is based completely on the votes I received, and therefore is subject to bias, though I did my best to avoid that. As well as this, there may have been instances of the same person voting more than once, which unless is done in a large capacity is hard to catch.
Ultimately, I did my best to make this as objective as possible, sharing the poll as far as I could amongst the Glee fandom and ensuring people only voted once, but this is not by any means completely factual.
I’d also like to say that I’m a human being, and should there be any faults with the math or charts that’s on me, feel to correct me, but please don’t get mad or accuse me of cheating or having bias. I attempted to do this as perfect as I can without bias, but I do make mistakes!
Before I begin I’d like to thank @wlwfletcher who helped me a lot with the charts for the numerous categories that I’m gonna examine today, I couldn’t have done it without you! With that let’s dive right in!
There were 441 responses entered with 169 written responses, so thank you so much to anyone who submitted their opinions, it means a lot!
To start, the simple consensus of which version was preferred. From the people polled, most preferred Rachel.
Votes for Rachel: 302
Votes for Santana: 139
Votes for Rachel: 302
Votes for Santana: 139
Of the people polled, most were Santana stans with stans of both coming in second.
Votes for Santana: 191
Votes for both: 130
Votes for neither: 69
Votes for Rachel: 51
Votes for Santana: 191
Votes for both: 130
Votes for neither: 69
Votes for Rachel: 51
Who is the best singer overall was one of the most evenly matched responses, with Rachel beating “I think they’re equal” by only two responses. It’s worth noting that there were already responses when I added the equal answer, so it’s possible more people may have picked that one
The responses pointed to a large number of people being broadway fans, as yes and somewhat were significantly more popular than no.
Votes for yes: 227
Votes for somewhat: 145
Votes for no: 68
Votes for yes: 227
Votes for somewhat: 145
Votes for no: 68
Similarly, more than half were at the very least somewhat familiar with Funny Girl outside of Glee, but no was a more significant answer to this question.
Votes for yes: 189
Votes for no: 159
Votes for somewhat: 93
Votes for yes: 189
Votes for no: 159
Votes for somewhat: 93
Finally, I’m happy to report a large majority of the polled have heard the original DROMP!
Votes for yes: 369
Votes for no: 72
Votes for yes: 369
Votes for no: 72
Now, I have a few more charts on how the data is separated out in regards to different categories, just to examine further how different experiences and who you stan affects your opinion on the issue
The first chart is preferred DROMP vs if they had heard DROMP. People who prefer Rachel's version were more likely to have heard DROMP, but most of the people who picked Santana's version did as well, and as you can see the amount of people who haven't is close to equal.
The second chart is preferred DROMP vs who they stan. As you can see, Rachel and Santana stans were most likely to pick their fave's, but Santana stans were 40% more likely to pick Rachel then vice versa. Both those who stan both and those who stan neither were partial to Rachel.
Next is preferred DROMP vs if they considered themselves Broadway fans. All categories were more likely to pick Rachel but the margin by which they are separated grows less significant the less someone identifies with Broadway.
Next, we have preferred DROMP vs who they thought was the better singer. As you can see, people for the most part agreed that their favourite DROMP singer was the best overall, or that they were equal.
Here we have preferred DROMP vs if they were familiar with Funny Girl, and like the question about being a Broadway fan, all categories have more Rachel votes, but the margin becomes less significant the less familiar one is with Funny Girl outside of Glee.
Diverting from the questions relating to one's preferred DROMP, I have a few other charts that I found interesting, starting with who they stan vs if they have heard the original. Santana stans were the least likely to have heard it, and Rachel stans were the most likely.
Next, who they stan vs who they think is the better singer. The stans were most likely to pick their fave but Santana stans did vote equal often. People who are stan both or neither were more likely to pick Rachel over Santana, but were pretty much just as likely to pick equal.
Next is who they stan vs if they are a Broadway fan. Rachel stans were the most likely to be Broadway fans, with Santana stans as the least likely group to be a Broadway fan, but as you can see there is a large amount of Broadway fans across all these groups.
Next, who they stan vs if they are familiar with Funny Girl. Rachel stans were most likely to be familiar with Funny Girl, and Santana stans were least likely. Interestingly, stans of neither had an almost even split, with less than 10% difference between each of the responses.
These two charts examine who was most likely to leave a written response. People who picked Rachel's were most likely to when it came to preferred DROMP but when it comes to who they stan, Santana stans were most likely to leave a response.
Finally, we have charts which show three sets of data, preferred DROMP, who they stan, and then another question, either bway fan, familiarity with Funny Girl or if they heard the original. These charts analyze things already seen on other charts but I think they're interesting.
And that's it! I think this provides interesting perspective into the debate that we talk about often, and shows how much really goes into why someone prefers what they do. Who you stan, who's voice you like, whether you're a broadway fan, whether you like funny girl and whether
you've heard the original are all things that play into one's choice on a preferred version, and I think its relevant to discuss all of it instead of just acting as if it's objective. Everyone's opinion is valid, and everyone deserves a say, because we all have different
perspectives. I hope you all enjoyed this, I know I did! In a bit I'll post some of my favourite written responses, a lot of them were really wonderful and funny and a lot of them made my day. If I post yours and you want it taken down, feel free to dm me!
