Which companies have best blended a simultaneous combination of SAAS revenue AND Marketplace (transaction) revenue? Looking for the best "success story" examples... (Note: deeply familiar with OpenTable, and will post more in next tweet).
In OT, early sales were 100% SAAS (contract did included transaction fee). Early customers wanted table management + CRM, & frankly didn't believe we could ramp transactions. They were "innovators." Eventually transactions became way more important (& drove equity value). [more]
In the long run at OT, SAAS would frequently be "sacrificed" and the transaction became sacrosanct. Marketplace model was always LT goal. SAAS was means to an end. The two models were never optimized simultaneously.
