And this is the big problem with Drakeford’s & UK Labour’s new found federalist pose: they can’t deliver it anytime soon, and probably never.

They need England to vote Labour in sufficient numbers to give them majority big enough to push it through — England hasn’t for >10 years https://twitter.com/nationcymru/status/1354731114322124808
Also, England is broadly hostile to federalism.

Think of all the anti-🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿/🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 comments erroneously claiming “England subsidises 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿/🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿”.

There’s going to be strong resistance to the dilution of English power a federal state would bring.

Westminster is both the 🇬🇧 & 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 parliament
So a UK Labour party running a federalist Westminster election manifesto won’t be an easy sell in England.

The tabloid London rags will be against it vehemently; dark money too.

Which is why Labour’s federalist talk, is fluffy, vague and v short on actionable detail.
Essentially, they’re kicking the can down the road. Hoping #indywales and #indyref2 go away.

Labour and Unionist politicians have form for this. In early decades of C20th, Labour and Liberals talked of home rule to win Welsh votes. When they won power they forgot about it.
Likewise in the 80’s Labour talked loads about proportional representation, as they saw no other route to power.

In 97, post-Blair-landslide, they forgot about PR. Why? They didn’t want to relinquish their any newly won power.

After 10 yrs of Tories, that looks short-sighted.
So federalism is a siren call to try woo people away from #indywales and #indyref2 and they’ve no intention of delivering it.

As deep down, they know they can’t.

Don’t fall for it, you’ll end up dashed on the Unionist rocks.
