Israel’s COVID-19 vaccination distribution plan has been a huge success. Israel has distributed shots to more than 2.6 million of its citizens, leading the world in vaccinations per capita. That's a major accomplishment. But it's not the full picture.
The Israeli government has made no plans to provide vaccinations to 4.5 million Palestinians living under military occupation in the West Bank and blockade in Gaza. the Fourth Geneva Convention requires Israel to provide for the public health+hygiene of the occupied population.
Israel also has a clear moral obligation and a pressing public health interest in ensuring the broadest possible access to the vaccine. That's why prominent figures in Israel's Health Ministry are urging Israel to provide vaccinations to everyone.
Our partners at @zazim_org_il, have mobilized thousands of Israelis to urge Israel's Health Minister @YuliEdelstein to uphold Israels legal responsibilities under international law to provide for the health and wellbeing of the population living under Israeli occupation.
