BREAKING: “The Taliban have not met their commitments,” Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby says at first press conference. “Without them meeting their commitments...it's very hard to see a specific way forward for the negotiated settlement but we're still committed to that.”
“What I'm saying is that any decision of force levels in Afghanistan is going to be driven by our security requirements, there are security commitments there, and driven by conditions,” Kirby added.
On whether going to zero troops is still the goal, Kirby said “It is under discussion with our partners and allies to make the best decisions going forward, on, on, on force presence in Afghanistan...”
“The Taliban are not meeting their commitments to reduce violence, and to renounce their ties to al Qaeda, they are not meeting their commitments.”
“Let me put it very clear there's no change to the commitments we made in it, that was done previous to our coming in, there's no been no change that all want to see an end of the war. But you said, if the Taliban meet their commitments and they haven't, and they aren't.”
