This has been my work place for 30 years so it is a bit of a strange feeling to be saying goodbye.
It is a momentous day as it is the last step in our transition 1/ @JohnRei56801513 @michelleh998 @liannweir @paula_shiels @sazzll @SandyMayhew5 @CELCIStweets @FionaC1503 https://twitter.com/CrossReach/status/1354881939841327104
2/..... from the old to the new from being a large residential school to homes in communities and our school at Erskine.
When we first started on this journey there were some who said we were foolish some who said it couldn’t be done and some who put up barriers to it ever happening the NIMBY brigade who could only see our children & young people as ’bad boys & girls’ @ThePromiseScot @whocaresscot
and a few planners who just asked for the impossible “additions” in a house that would mean it could never be a family home. But we persevered because…..
We believed in the goodness in others and thankfully the majority have welcomed us with open arms & hearts into their communities.
we believe our children & young people deserve opportunities, to be included and be part of their community
We believe our children & young people should feel cared for & loved in all that they do
We all need to recognise when we are getting old and no longer able to do as well as before [my old legs don't run as fast as they did 40yrs ago, but there is still hope!!]
it is the same for Ballikinrain & CrossReach residential schools services, so after more than 50yrs it is time to prune & cut back the old branches and allow the new shoots grow & flourish.
There are many happy memories and although it is with sadness that we will no longer be caring for C&YP at Ballikinrain, it is also a day of hope as we look forward to a future that is newer & brighter and full of hope……
It has been a privilege to have been part of this story
For all those children & young people and colleagues, who when we first met we were simply strangers, but over the years have become good friends, all I can say is THANK YOU and here is to the next 30 years [well maybe not quite 😜]
