I've been thinking about the Pokémon TCG a lot lately and I'm starting to get concerned about it.
The recent surge in popularity and visibility of the TCG is absolutely fantastic and I love when new people join into Pokémon, but it has been having such an iffy side effect...

Because of how this new interest started up, people have been going nuts about it not from a gameplay aspect but a financial aspect.
As such, there are so many videos/photos going round of people just buying out the entire stock of cards from stores

As such, this is detrimental to the collectors, hobbyists and especially the players. People are struggling to get what they want because of people mass buying the new product in the hope of getting
a) The "money" card
b) Holding onto it for years so it appreciates in value

With this, the values of cards are then skyrocketing, scalpers are getting heavily involved and the general player is just unable to get it, and I have seen people/have friends say it's making them question staying in with the TCG.

It's the same with the younger audience being unable to get it, and with sets like Shining Fates and Battle Styles, players and collectors, myself included are legitimately concerned they're going to be unable to get the product. It may mean they just stop caring

I truly hope this alleviates soon, and people stop memeing the price up, for lack of a better term, causing people to want to buy more and more for money, else the long term collectors and players may end up losing interest.
The TCG is so much fun to play.

Hopefully one day soon we'll all be back to taking the cards for what they are and be thinking "Wow this Mew card is going to be brutal in a deck" or "Its art is nice", not just "Whoa I pulled this $500 card"
