YOU MIGHT FIND THIS OFFENSIVE, BUT
There’s nothing wrong with signing to a label, going commercial or “selling out” and making music that the masses actually enjoy and love - and pay for.
There’s EVERYTHING wrong with poverty, entitlement, bitterness and living below your potential.
On any given day I’d rather be Chanda Na Kay and be able to buy my parents a home from my music than be a starving artist who’s trying to stick to the roots of the hiphop or R&B culture.
Busy obsessing over what rap “should” sound like meanwhile not even able to pay for decent studio time or a music video.

Some of these ideals you cling to are just desperate attempts at getting approval from people you’ll never meet.
Yes, there’s preference and some people would rather rap on old beats and not use auto tune or sing, and thats fine. But other people’s preference is rapping on Dunka beats. And both preferences should be respected.
But when YOUR preference isn’t getting you where you want to be should you blame the public for picking someone else’s preference over yours? When YOUR preference is limiting how much impact you’re able to make, is it really the people’s fault?
You chose to make music in English and not Nyanja or Bemba. That was YOUR choice. And what you get out of that are YOUR results.
This post is not about what language you use or about sounding like Chanda Na Kay or not. What I’m saying is you ought to be awake enough to know what direction will bring you results and what won’t.
And as long as your path isn’t bringing you results, by all means consider trying a different route.
