Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy, mainly known as XXXTENTACION, was a rapper from Florida, in the USA. he was tragically shot on 18th of June 2018. his music and legacy has gained him one of the strongest fanbases i’ve ever seen in rap and his artistic progression is like no other.
pioneer:
X was releasing songs on soundcloud alongside frequent collaborator Ski Mask The Slump God and eventually gained a cult following. “Look At Me!” blew up and put his name on the map. it popularised distorted bass in hip-hop and it was a unique and raw sound at the time.

evolution:
in 2017, X released “17” an album that showed him changing as an artist, and displaying his crazy versatility. it was an amazing album. mellow instrumentals and deep lyrics. it showed the other side to the loud, energetic X we all knew. a good case of artistry.

commercial stardom:
a year later he released “?”, a project which had so many sounds. it was a chart-topping record, as it debuted at number one and it had his biggest song to date, “SAD!”. my personal favourite is “infinity (888)” because it showed X as a rapper’s rapper.

a tragedy:
on 18 June 2018, X was sadly shot, and pronounced dead. just at the same time it seemed to me that he just turned it around for himself as well. this loss shook the hip-hop scene, with many paying their respects to his legacy as a pioneer of generational music.

posthumous releases:
in my opinion these two albums shouldn’t have been released. skins was okay and it would have been fine if that was the only album released after his death.
however bvf is just a clear attempt at a cash grab from his management. i don’t think it’s fair to...

...X and his legacy to be tainted by releasing projects that weren’t finished just for monetary gain. it’s scummy if you ask me. i see this as an attempt to profit off his death, because quite evidently his name brings numbers. but that shouldn’t be prioritised. let the man rest.
end of thread.
a little rant there at the end but i had to get that off my chest.
thank you for reading if you have.
RIP XXXTENTACION.
