the only two things i can add to this whole Gamestop thing, because i haven’t seen anybody else point this out, is something a friend of mine (who’s put together a pretty modest portfolio over time) told me last night while talking about it:
1. when the fun is over and everybody bails on their stock to sell before it plummets again, some people won’t make it out. people who bought in to be part of this will lose all of that money. you likely won’t hear anything about them or what they lose.
2. twitter loves to make shit self-righteous. it should be pointed out: this is not “poor people rising up to oust the rich” like some dumb fucks on here say it is. this is poor people sticking it to rich people while also trying to get rich themselves.
greed is a central factor in all of this. and that’s fine, people should do what they can to make their money. but this isn’t a win for “the poors” because the winners from this will have made money.
that being said, the fact that hedge funds are losing billions of dollars over this is funny no matter which way you look at it.
