So after 7 games what do we know about the winnipeg jets? Well that's a tough question to answer with divisional play and such a small sample size but let's look into it at 5vs5.
A few things to start. This is only 7 games of data against a small number of teams which will make this hard to know what these numbers mean so I will add my own eye test into it. All stats are from natural stat trick and Hockey Viz.
1st the offense by data
So what does this mean:
It means so far the jets are a far better offensive team this season compared to last. They are making efforts to get to home plate. 2 things... This is a small sample so is it sustainable and the second is that the north division is weak defensively.
Next defensively... Here's the data:
So what does mean:
Well the jets are better defensively but still not good. Again small sample so sustainability is a question. Also the north will be good offensively.
So what does this mean? For me and what I have seen from the jets.. they will never be a good defensive team. It's something they will always struggle with but playing a higher tempo and focusing on making sure they generate offense can be a path to success.
The jets currently are playing a style that takes advantage of their shooting talent and good goaltending. It is something the coaching staff should go all in on by adding puck moving dmen and fowards skilled in transition and/or shooting to the playing lineup.
