It’s hard to be surprised about antisemitism these days, but the media's attack on Anne Neuberger, a public servant who has dedicated her life to keeping Americans safe, is beyond the pale. 1/
Loving Israel, & supporting orgs that strengthen the Jewish community, are part of Jewish identity for millions of American Jews. Anne's family's philanthropic capacity does not negate Anne's patriotism nor her ability to do the job for which she has been selected... 2/
...after more than a decade of proving her exemplary qualifications. If Anne is disqualified for loving Israel, most American Jews will be disqualified from holding positions of leadership in this country. 3/
Accusations of #dualloyalty have followed Jews thru history in societies that scapegoat Jews to cover up their flaws. Claiming Jews have loyalty, not to countries in which they live & vote, but to some nefarious Jewish power, is dangerous & has resulted in unimaginable bloodshed.
Yesterday was Holocaust Remembrance Day—a day when we are asked to remember this painful history & reflect on the gravity of the 6million Jews slaughtered because of who we are, after Nazi campaigns to dehumanize us using classical antisemitic tropes just like the "dual loyalty".
It was correct decision for @nbcnews to retract their story, recognizing it did not have journalistic integrity. It's unfathomable @motherjones has employed these anti-Jewish stereotypes, yesterday of all days, & we join chorus of those demanding that they retract & apologize.
