One of the most common arguments I've seen against my point of view on the Right Side ASL situation is if the interpreter should keep her position for the purposes of /unity/ or building bridges. These arguments, to me, are not made in good faith
Unity and building bridges does not mean that any action over the past four years is completely forgotten. I believe in tzedek - justice. If you have done harm, then you need to do reparations for the harm done. And sometimes forgiveness does not happen anyway.
Forgiveness is not transactional. Spreading conspiracy theories in the deaf communities under the guise of providing access is /harm done/. It ought to not be rewarded with a coveted position.
Seeing the Right Side ASL interpreter may benefit those who support her viewpoints, but it does not benefit nor mitigate any harm experienced by those of us who have worked in different levels of progressive politics for the past fours.
Real unity and bridge building between fractured communities requires real work and perseverance. And sometimes healing just doesn't happen.
Putting an extremely controversial ASL interpreter in a public facing position does nothing towards any of that.
