Rangers have played a blinder with the narrative re Morelos. They know that they have a volatile, ill tempered yet occasionally brilliant player on their hands and they have invested a lot of effort into making him out to be a mistreated and maligned victim.

They don’t hesitate to make ludicrously baseless accusations about players racially abusing him and it has resulted in a situation where officials now think twice about reprimanding him, as last night showed.

Immoral? Yes, it probably is. Liverpool did it with Suarez too (an obvious connection there). it’s been one of the most effective pieces of management and controlling the perception of a player we’ve seen in recent years.
