Yesterday, I mentioned in a reply to someone that I was blown away by the Klingons in DSC & a handful of people decided that was an appropriate time to be dicks about it. So here is a dedicated DSC Klingon appreciation thread because fuck those people in particular.
The Klingon language is so fucking cool. The DSC opening scene was my first exposure to Klingons and it was exhilarating. Gutteral, syllabic emphasis, hard stops and plosives. It's so freaking alien and aggressive!
The costumes, dear god the costumes ❀ Intricate, armoured, tribal, symbolic, heavy, ornate, textured. They convey so much and create entire world's and personas. Gersha Phillips and her team are just incredible.
The makeup and prosthetics are truly startling. It requires 3D-printing, a team of talented special F/X artists, and a lot of time. Glenn Hetrick deserves endless praise. I love them SO MUCH. These are my Klingons.
Special shout-out to background Klingons! I see you and I love you all. I want to know more about them. Who is she? What's her house and rank? Who is he? What's his take on all of this? Give me a spinoff show with DSC Klingons so I can be immersed in this world forever.
They are horrifyingly badass and value honour above all else. They are loyal to the Klingon Empire and their houses, but are fractious and power-hungry, creating rifts in shifting allegiances and so much intrigue.
Ash Tyler is an amazingly cool character. He goes through so much and I really miss seeing him. Shazad Latif absolutely crushes it as Ash and Voq.
L'Rell is a cunning, strong-willed Klingon warrior and she is epic in every scene. She's a leader, a commander, a mother, an interrogator, and a strategist who values unity in the Klingon Empire. Mary Chieffo dominates.
So in case there was any misunderstanding earlier, I absolutely adore the DSC Klingons. Go hate on them somewhere away from my face. Just like others found Star Trek through TOS, TNG, or another earlier show, I found it through DSC. Let people enjoy things. Live long and fuck off
