It feels like what millennials have learned in the last 15 years is that absolutely no one, none of our institutions, are looking out for us, providing a safety net, or rooting for us to succeed.
Anyway this feels like a “call your senators” time so I left messages with @SenJeffMerkley and @RonWyden to let them know I hope they investigate the collusion that’s happening right now where Wall Street is trying to make sure they don’t lose their shirts. AGAIN.
“Millennials! Why so jaded?” Gee, maybe all these “once in a lifetime” crises that keep happening every few years!
It is beyond disenchanting to see regular people accused of market manipulation when financial institutions are nakedly colluding with each other to keep anyone else from making money. If this situation has illustrated anything at all, it’s that the house will make sure it wins.
I’ve been incredibly lucky during this current crisis. But that subreddit has jokes about spending their “stimmies” on “tendies” because people are suffering and looking for any way out of the financial hole they’re in. Wall Street has been at record highs so why not try that?
So they did! And they were winning! Turning those stimmies into tendies indeed! Bootstraps finally working!

Except... uh oh, Wall Street bet the whole house that a specific company would crash and burn. And regular folks said nah, let’s see about that.
Every think about how gross it is? That Wall Street can make billions of dollars betting that tens of thousands of people will lose their livelihoods?

So regular people bet that Wall Street was wrong! And so many people joined that Wall Street became wrong!
But no no we can’t have that. Wall Street must be protected. And here we are.

This is also a really important perspective. Basically nothing about this feels good. I'm probably painting too much of a David v Goliath picture. https://twitter.com/LeeFlower/status/1354828201223184386?s=20
