In other areas of the country, where leaders have at best simply overcompensated in their response or at worst, used the pandemic as a political tool to shame leaders from the other party during an election cycle - and even to earn book deals and Emmy Awards.

Either way...

Their actions have cost millions of jobs, the failure of countless small businesses, and children to lose an entire year of their development.

To be clear, this isn’t intended to be a D vs. R thing. I may lean right on most issues, but I’m capable of being cogent here.

For example, President Trump’s response served as a microcosm for his presidency - every good thing (ex: Operation Warp Speed) was mitigated by divisiveness, self-promotion, and stupidity...

Disparaging Democrat governors, insisting that his signature appear on stimulus checks, and openly wondering during a televised press conference whether injecting disinfectant into people was a possible treatment method - all during a time when leadership was of paramount

importance - are perfect examples of why he was a one-term president.

Had he been capable of embracing the fact that the moment and the office he held were bigger than he was, he would have probably started his 2nd term last week.

Anyway, back to Florida...

While any objective person can see that the press wasn’t exactly fair to Trump, he brought a lot of it onto himself as well.

Seen as an extension of Trump (overblown), Florida @GovRonDeSantis became a favorite target of the press for his handling of the pandemic.

While...

the national press fawned over @NYGovCuomo, they clutched their pearls tight while breathlessly reporting that DeSantis had ordered the opening of Florida’s beaches, while ignoring that NYC subways had continued running the entire time, packed with maskless riders until...

April 17, when NY mandated masks on public transit. It was May before they began shutting down subways at night for disinfecting.

The press gave a national platform to a conspiracy theorist/criminal who accused DeSantis of “cooking the books” on COVID stats...

...without evidence.

Because DeSantis is viewed in some circles as a possible 2024 presidential candidate, he has been subjected to an unrelenting media who seeks to discredit, vilify, and even question the intelligence of the Yale/Harvard Law grad at every turn.

While the press simps for a fired/discredited/arrested “data scientist,” they blatantly ignore a Cuomo order that led to thousands of COVID nursing home deaths.

To be fair, no leader has been perfect...they shouldn’t be expected to be.

They’re managing an unprecedented, large-scale event...some have approached it rationally and made decisions that consider the impact on every facet of the whole.

Some have made rash decisions that only consider self-preservation and political brownie points, despite...

the impact on the citizens they serve, their economies, and their future.

While many leaders issued draconian edicts that they didn’t see fit to follow themselves, my governor sought to find a balance between safety and sanity.

While many leaders continue to battle with and bow to the teacher’s unions, my governor ordered schools opened in August...and they’re still open.

While commerce has buckled under in some areas due to restrictions, my governor has encouraged continued growth.

I’m thankful to be a Floridian, and I’m proud to have @GovRonDeSantis as my governor.

If people viewed Florida through an objective lens and were presented with neutral facts, they would see why.
