Local Authorities have legal responsibility for ALL BURIAL GROUNDS (excluding private family burial grounds) and therefore they are responsible for unmarked graves in mother and baby home sites and other institutions (laundries, industrial schools, mental asylums). 1/5

In Bessborough at least 14 adult women (mothers) & 840 babies & children are missing. In the Good Shepherds Cork at least 100 women & girls are buried in an inaccessible mass grave owned by Cork City Council. The dead come from all over the island of Ireland & the UK. Many 2/5

were routinely sent to institutions by their Local Authority , particularly in the case of pregnant girls and women sent to Bessborough by predecessors of Cork, Kilkenny, Waterford, Tipperary and Kerry County Councils - many other county Local Authorities did the same. 3/5

Local Authorities need to apologise and make amends. So far only Galway County Council has done so and they have yet to make amends. Please sign and share our petition which asks for a commitment to reparation through preservation of the institutional lands 4/5

and consultation with survivors on memorialisation.
