Asked and answered: What are Americans’ feelings and associations towards the terms “fossil gas” and “fracked gas?”

We found that there were larger partisan differences in feelings toward “fossil gas” and “fracked gas” compared to the other terms we tested 2/x
Looking at top-of-mind associations to “fossil gas,” we see that it’s more strongly tied to pollution for Democrats than for Republicans. “Natural” was a common association for Republicans. 3/x
Looking at associations to “fracked gas,” we see similar results. Stronger ties to pollution for Democrats than for Republicans. Stronger ties to “energy” and “gas” for Republicans. 4/x
Overall, terms with the most negative associations across parties (among those tested) were “methane gas” and “methane.” 5/x
