You won't get better by accident.

Stop expecting to.

Take these 5 steps to create an improvement plan that works.

// Thread
Step 1

Define the focus.

What do you want to get better at?

- Delegating
- Negotiations
- Communication
- Casting a vision
- Conflict Management

These are just a few examples of skills you will want to focus on.
Step 2

Find someone to learn from

- Hire a coach
- Find a mentor
- Become an intern
- Ask to shadow an expert
- Reach out to experts on social media

Having someone to learn from will RAPIDLY accelerate your development process.
Step 3

Find a challenging assignment outside of your comfort zone and directly relevant to your focus.

- Delegate a task with a short turn around
- Partner on a negotiation
- Start an email for your department
- Lead a team meeting
- Initiate a project with a new team
Step 4

Traditionally learning.

Again, this should be specific to the skill you are developing.

- Read a book
- Watch YouTube videos
- Buy a Gumroad course
- Subscribe to a podcast
- Take a course on LinkedIn
Step 5

Find a way to track your progress.

If it matters, measure it. (And your development matters.)

Before you get started, think about how getting better at this skill will help you,

and then find a way to measure this success.
Follow this path.

Once you've completed your plan, pick a new skill and repeat.
