GP In partial defense of hedge funds, many use invested dollars to do things other than make market plays which add little to no value to anyone but their clients.
GP Some do aircraft frame and engine leasing. Some do venture capital. Some are "a fund of funds" with divisions that do a bit of everything.
GP Some invest solely in IPOs. Some take companies private, remake them more efficiently, then go public again. Some are vulture funds, investing in bad loans banks don't want on their books freeing up capital for banks to lend to the public.
GP All I am saying is that while there are funds which add no value to anyone or anything other than their clients, there are many that do provide value, help the economy, and indirectly help the little guys.

Be able to make the distinction.
