I confess to having really mixed feelings about this day, when Canadians send out hashtagged tweets exhorting us to talk about mental health. When I was first wrestling with a diagnosis the self-congratulatory tone gutted me.
Talking is huge. Talking is vital. But today reminds us that when it comes to the world's leading causes of disability, talk is not enough.
Imagine reading these tweets when you or your loved one can't get care, can't get a diagnosis, can't afford drugs or psychotherapy. That's where Canada is at. Still.
I've kvetched about this before. https://twitter.com/amp6/status/1304048625262133248?s=19
I even posted a cringey awkward video. https://twitter.com/amp6/status/1304048234537549825?s=19
But I'll say it again: we need mental health care to be accessible - financially, logistically, culturally. We need care to be compassionate. We need voluntary care to be prioritized. We need care to be effective. Too often, for too many people in Canada, it's not.
