The worsening Irish housing crisis & solutions: A thread. 1. The last few weeks have shown only the rich & investors can afford to buy apartments in Dublin, investor funds are buying up blocks of apts & leaving many vacant, despite being in a Global pandemic & Housing Shock..
2. Evictions of tenants from private rental sector continues, #homelessness has devastating human impact, families & children stuck in Hotels & Hubs, with women esp vulnerable. Yet theres still no plan to #endhomelessness

3. Tenants are being ignored, measures are needed to give them security & affordability, like removing landlords ability to evict on sale, no reason evictions, life time leases & rent affordability /control mechanisms. While HAP is failing too. As @ThresholdIRE & @CatuFMC show.
4. All housing policy is a choice - currently Government pursues a policy of inflating house prices for investors, developers, banks, landlords & homeowners. Help to buy is really help for rising housing prices. The vast public land bank should be used to build affordable homes
5. The @CualannO Housing co-operative is building genuinely affordable homes - yet why is the Gov not rolling out this approach? Why will the state not make some public land available for this? 6. A key measure to solve the crisis is building affordable secure rental housing for all incomes - Cost rental homes. Yet Gov roll out is lethargic with no targets. A few pilots. 7. Our housing system should ensure everyone has the basic human right of a home. A Referendum should be held this year ( #COVID19 permitting) to put #Right2housing in the Constitution. This should not be shelved to a Housing Commission. It is essential.
