As a 1st yr (pregnant) fellow we had the most beautiful pt w/ infant leukemia.

So happy throughout treatment & oh so perfect.

Looking at her, my mind often drifted to the child growing inside me.

Her relapse was the 1st time I really cried @ work.

Prognosis dismal.

I still recall vividly the day her parents pulled me aside to ask my opinion.

Transplant had been recommended but they were unsure.

Resigned that she was likely to die regardless.

Fearful that they’d put her through all that for nothing.

Ultimately they went ahead.

She turned 8 last month & is somehow more perfect than the day I met her.

I keep her story close for those times in medicine when the ending is less than happy.

A salient kreminder of the beauty and resilience of children. @KMBaileylab
