Here’s the thing though:

Sex work is what people do when they have no other options.

To remove their last option is violence.

Not surprised they’re partnering with 2 Magdalene NGOs, NWCI have consistently refused to engage with SWers and now they’re experts somehow. https://twitter.com/nwci/status/1354719994312077312
Ireland has been a perfect example of why this thinking is dangerous :

Violence against us is up.
Human trafficking has skyrocketed.
Sex workers are being evicted, jailed, deported during a worldwide PANDEMIC!

Refused govt assistance @SWAIIreland crowdfunded.
Where was @NWCI ?
Here’s a novel idea:

Why don’t @NWCI and their Magdalene NGO partners pool their substantial funding to address the reasons people enter sex work rather than punishing us for surviving?

Do something about rent in Ireland. It’s expensive and we get evicted because of SW laws.
Pay for us to go to college (no, not Ruhama’s in-house self-esteem classes). We need non-judgemental mental healthcare professionals. Pay our tuition.

Fight to abolish DP and to allow those within DP to work.
Rather than partnering with Magdalene NGOs that regularly platform notorious anti-trans activists, maybe fight trans discrimination in employment in Ireland because speaking as a trans sex worker that has been evicted in Ireland under NM we have few other options.
@NWCI ‘s 2 new Magdalene NGO partners actually spearheaded the movement along with Magdalene order the religious sisters of charity, to introduce current disastrous legislation that imperils SWers in Ireland but nets them millions in funding.
If @NWCI actually gave a shit about SWers, outside of engaging in the biggest right-wing moral panic since the Satanic Panic of the 80s/90s they’d engage with SWers and not just the overpaid middle class white women in right wing christian NGOs founded and run by Magdalene orders
Irish sex ed in our Catholic schools is shit, it’s one of the reasons our HIV numbers are through the roof.

Another reason it’s high is gardaí using condoms as evidence of engagement in sex work discouraging workers from carrying them.

But sure, let’s criminalize survival.
If the issue was demand (it isn’t, it’s poverty and inequality) then why not address it through failed Catholic Irish sex ed rather than criminalizing survival for vulnerable people?

If only y’all knew some influential Catholics... 🤔
Vulnerable person: “I have no other option than sex work available to me right now.”

Middle class Catholic Irish white women: “we don’t like that option.”

VP: “so you’ll help me with €, rent, etc.?”

MCCIWW: “no. Jail, eviction and deportation.”
We are still as a nation reeling from shock that the Irish gov (fully complicit in the M&B homes) have decided the church, their partner in crime, weren’t at fault. Now an org that claims to represent ALL irish women (they don’t) are boasting about partnering w Magdalene NGOs.
More than 20 years ago Peter Mullen was horrified enough to make the Magdalene Sisters. In 2021 the Irish gov have decided they weren’t all that bad and sure aren’t we all to blame and @NWCI are partnering with the orders to renew the Church’s war on sex workers.
Remember that @NWCI have consistently refused to engage with any sex worker not vetted by Ruhama. Now they’re claiming to be the authority on the subject, more than sex workers themselves, whom they refuse to engage with.
#nothingaboutuswithoutus
@SWAIIreland crowdfunded and put money in the hands of desperate workers after the Irish govt refused to help.
But there’s funding for these self-righteous arseholes to save women from “selling” themselves?🤮🤬

How much would SW be reduced if we gave that money to SWers instead?
