Takeaways from Thomas Tuchel's first game with Chelsea.
This thread is by no means a parameter to judge the team since Tuchel arrived at Cobham just 29 and half an hour before the kick-off at Stamford. This thread will only focus on my observations and potential solutions.

Lineup: Tuchel as suggested by media, panned out a 3-4-3 formation with Toni, Silva, Azpi being the 3 CB's. CHO and Chilwell as WB's. Jorginho and Kova(Jovacic) as double pivots. Ziyech and Havertz as advance 8's occupying the half spaces and Giroud upfront as target man.
Role of 3 Back:
The 3 back spread out as wide as possible to stretch the Wolves 1st line of press & open up passing lanes for Jovacic.Azpi used to move forward to create overload on right as per requirement. The backline was high and thus they maintained their position responsibly

Jovacic partnership:
This duo worked well together especially Kova. They created asymmetry during buildup to occupy one of Wolves CM=freeing up halfspace.Kova was looking sharp with his dribbles and turns to disengage his marker but both of them were being passive with passes(1/2)

Especially Jorginho.Another mistake they were doing was leaving ample of space in the centre but they weren't threatened as such. Coming back to pass, without vertical passes, there was no penetration and Ziyech being free on right HS, did got frustrated to not receive pass(2/2)
Attack:
Tuchel, an admirer of PnP, instructed the 3 forwards+both the WB's to occupy the 5 vertical lanes. Though, Ziyech and Havertz weren't operating very high and created a box with Jovacic to overload Wolves 2nd line and created 4v2.

Wolves anticipated this and set a man-marking trap on Chelsea forwards. Whenever one of them with their back to the opp goal post was about to receive, Wolves CB would step out and press their respective target aggressively=no time on the ball and the ball is recycled. (2/2)
Lack of central penetration:
As explained above, due to this trap, Chelsea players were not giving vertical balls to the players higher up. This was complimented by lack of passing angles created by proper positioning and mostly automatisms.

Mount being a potential solution?
-Mount was on the bench but as soon as he entered the pitch, Chelsea started to look more confident between the lines&were getting closer to scoring.I haven't seen a lot of him but by the looks of it,he might replace Ziyech in the next game.

Solutions:
2nd balls-as I looked carefully, Giroud was getting a frustrated as no one was near to him for link-up play.Someone of his aerial presence, winning 2nd balls are a must. This is where Chelsea needs Havertz to position himself during final third(just behind him)

Chelsea were also not attacking the space in behind the Wolves defence which really made Wolves CB's to get comfortable. Even if it's going to fail, runs in behind or movements are very crucial to cause CB's making a mistake and then taking opportunity

(2/3)
The effects of Lampard's poor coaching was visible in the game. The players were often confused about their positioning=breaking their rythm. I don't think this will last long but it has to be recovered in the training, which I know will happen in a week or two.(3/3)
Conclusion(1/n):
I didn't want to discuss individual poor performances due to this being their first game under Tuchel but as I said, the improvement was radical. The team has a lot of positives and with training, they will get back to their quality they possess.

My expectation is the players will have to give their best in training sessions and focus on their strengths at this point. If my estimation is correct, Tuchel will layer his principles+general automatisms in a few weeks. Squad does have the hunger so they will push further
The fixtures are tough but they all need to believe in the process and work according to what the staff advices them. Results in the few upcoming games shouldn't really affect them as it takes time to channelise and reach the optimal level after mediocrity.
