Views on women in the army:
So yesterday I conducted a Poll to understand the views of my followers with respect to what capacity should women serve in, within the army. It gained more traction than I had thought. With hindsight I should have divided it into male and female. 1/n https://twitter.com/tripureshwari1/status/1354385842744119296
Maybe next time.
So personally I am against women being in the army in any capacity. That is, they can be employed as civilians if needed, but not as military personnel. I would like to thank @fiercelyvirgo and @agnisrivatsa Sir for their inputs. 2/n
I will explain my stand via all the arguments of those who are for women participating in the army in varying capacity

Women can be in non-combat roles: Strictly speaking, non-combat roles have been created specifically for women. 3/n
Men in these so called non-combat roles do in fact get into combat when required. For similar pay, you are actually getting more out of a male nurse in the army than a female one.
4/n
Women are also physically strong, if they qualify, why not: Women are biologically stronger than men as evidenced by their ability to give birth and their longer life expectancy. Women are also less likely to be stupid , compared to men. 5/n
However, physically, they are simply not as strong. For example, in sports, women are more prone to injury. The fastest female runner in the US, her record is below that of the top 300 High School male runners. 6/n
Not to mention, women have menstrual cycles and take maternity leave. This affects their health and ability to work. Even if a few women do make it through the selection process for combat training, these are major concerns.
7/n
Women should have equal opportunity to serve their country as men do: I disagree. Women are different from men. They serve the nation by providing moral strength to those around them and having Children whom they pass the torch of tradition on to. 8/n
Why is this role being undermined? Is it not important to the nation?
Not to mention, if a situation like the one our Wing Commander Abhinandan was in ever happened to a woman, imagine the effect it would have on the morale of the country and forces. 9/n
Women are the same as Men: Psychologically speaking, both men and women are biased towards ensuring the safety of a woman over a man. This has implications in a tense war setting. Another point to be noted is that having women in army camps inevitably changes the dynamics of 10/n
a very masculine space. Take the example of the USS Acadia which e first ship to house a wartime mixed sex crew in the 1991 Persian Gulf War where 36 women(10% of women in crew) became pregnant during deployment. Not only will the presence of women affect military discipline,11/n
it will also create insecurities in some of the wives of the men posted there. Do they really deserve to be burdened with yet another issue? Women are not the same as men, and that is alright. 12/n
Only women who pass the same standards as Men should be allowed: Aside from my point about a woman PoW and the effect it would have, consider this- A very small fraction of women can get through the training. Even if they make it through it, their numbers don't justify giving13/n
them a separate unit (these will effectively become quotas, mind you). Will these women be able to help out a male who is down, weighs 90 Kgs and is 6ft? Most women can't even lift women who are slightly lighter than them. I don't think you can economically justify the extra 14/n
effort and resources it takes to have women in both combat and so called "non-combat roles"
15/n
What about Rani Lakshmi Bai and Rani Durgavati: Their kingdoms were going through crisis and they were more or less compelled. We have more young men in society than women. This is a stupid argument. Not to mention, losing women is more expensive for society in terms of
16/n
morale and sustaining population.
Something to consider: Militaries around the world are starting to shrink in size and upgrade in terms of equipment. Why should we be discussing such questions that frankly change the very nature of military organization and culture, 17/n
when there is already a lot of rapid and uncertain changes.
