1/ After yesterdays @EP_Legal vote - here is a more detailed recap as to why this is a big deal & the direction of travel given the growing momentum for a robust #EU law on #HumanRights and environmental #DueDiligence ( #mHREDD) - please read on 👇 https://twitter.com/richardandrewg1/status/1354493473836199938
2/ What happened yesterday?

MEPs so far have agreed on key provisions for #mHREDD law to:

➡️Mandate companies to fulfil their duty to respect human rights, the environment and good governance
➡️Scope of these companies to include all sectors - including finance 💸💸 ...
3/ ...
➡️ Outlined that this duty should be across the companies entire "value chain"
➡️ Set out the process for conducting #Duediligence building on the @OECD and #UNGPs guidance
➡️ Called for meaningful stakeholder engagement by companies as part of their #Duediligence
4/ ... and very importantly:

➡️ Calls for an #mHREDD legislation where companies can be held liable and must provide remediation for any harms that companies have caused or contributed to in their value chains

All of this is really significant 👍

But what's next... 🤔
5/ Next steps:

MEPs in @Europarl_EN Plenary will have a final vote on this report in March

So far all political groups are on board i.e. @EPPGroup @TheProgressives @GreensEFA @RenewEurope @Left_EU

💪💪💪💪💪💪💪

And this will be timely because...
