Here's the kind of language the Labours used against Clive

"Like a cheap opportunist, Councillor Stevens is trying to score political points" [when he rightly pointed out the hidden £5m in cuts] https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/calls-cabinet-member-consider-position-1879312

"Mirror back at ya" from the mayor https://twitter.com/BristolTreeFora/status/1354745372787290112
Clive was one of the few people to keep fighting the good fight.

In May 2018, Clive questioned the business case for the Colston Hall refurb.
Cheney said: "When we took the decision we did commission a review to make sure it was best value for money." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-43969335
"A report to Bristol City Council, which owns the hall, says the columns holding the building up were found to be hollow and weaker than first thought.

The report also lists rotting joints, wall voids and asbestos as problems that need to be dealt with."
And yet Cheney said in 2018 that a review had been done to get the best value for money.

In 29 July 2020, the mayor wrote to WECA to say there were projects they couldn't fund alone: such as Colston Hall.

WECA replied:

we've already given £8.5m to Colston Hall...your problem now. (in so many words)
Let's remember that on 1 May 2018, Clive Stevens offered to work with the council on the business plan, offered to look at reports, asked if there had been scrutiny, and put time and effort into trying to help the administration save millions.

He was dismissed--see next tweet.
Clive doing his best to help manage the millions the council was going to spend and rebuffed by Cheney — then Cheney at the name change of Colston Hall in 2020 saying there will need to be more millions poured into it.

How many millions has Cheney lost this city?
